Moda Etica_Openeyes2015

In 2012, we started offering a two days cultural immersion tour, in the rural area outside of Jaipur. Travelers take part in a two-hour, do-it-yourself block printing workshop where we employ 13 women artisans, among other experiences.

Laxmi is one of our artisans in Shampura. Laxmi is committed to preserving Katha stitching, one of the oldest techniques in India. She makes scarves with love, using recycled saris fabrics, and adds her own signature. Laxmi has built her own house, added a second floor to accommodate her large family, and kept her three children in school, all due to her work. This is our proudest achievement.

We retail the scarves that Laxmi and our other artisans make to Spain. Over the last five years, these sales have allowed the women to improve their families’ economic stability.

Every traveler who visits Shampura has a positive impact on the community by paying for activities that involve meditation, and visits to a vocational training center and organic farm. As a result, the community has built a new school and invested in block printing training for more women.
